City
of Fort Myers
Incorporated 1886. The name memorialized by this famous
Florida city is that of General Abraham Charles Myers,
a distinguished officer in the United States Army. It
was given to the fort by General David E. Twiggs, federal
commander in the Seminole Wars, who later became the father-in-law
of Myers. The city was developed in the later years of
the 19th Century, chiefly through the initiative of Stafford
C. Cleveland, a New York newspaperman. Situated on the
south bank of the Caloosahatchee River, Fort Myers is
the county seat.

Lee
County Amateur Radio Club
Dedicated to being here for the citizens of Lee County,
Florida, R.A.C.E.S. volunteers work under the direction
of the Lee County Emergency Operations Center staff for
those times when disaster strikes. While Lee County has
state of the art communications systems, it is considered
prudent to have a second communications network in time
of extreme problems and to provide a back-up method of
communication should the primary system become incapacitated.
That is where the RACES volunteers come in to play.
